MIND over muscle – Create the right mindset to END CONSTIPATION

How to end constipation and to get your bowel to work well again is a question of the mind as much as the body.

We are emotional beings. As much as we’d sometimes like to pretend otherwise, much of our decisions are being driven by how we feel about something.

We can achieve amazing things in life if we have a real desire to succeed.

If we land our dream job, we will work long hours to give it our very best. Or we’ll scrimp and save for the deposit for our first home.

But when it comes to our digestive health and how to end constipation, we often struggle.

Change isn’t always easy as we are creatures of habit. And there are things we simply don’t like to do.

Luckily, there are 5 tricks to creating the right mindset to solve your constipation problem.

How to end constipation starts with looking inside you.

# 1: Understand your ‘why’:

You need to understand your real reason for wanting to improve your digestion, having a flat belly again and feeling full of energy. This will help you to have your mind firmly set on your goal.

Ask yourself what’s the outcome you’d like to achieve.

For example, to have more energy for your family or friends. Or being more confident about your body and belly. Or doing something you’d love to do but currently cannot.

Write down what you truly desire so that you can refer back to it later to keep up your motivation.

#2: Harness the power of awareness:

Becoming aware of your physical sensations and your emotions will enable you to pick up the signals your body sends you. This will help you to figure out what’s good for you and what’s not.

Being aware and present in the moment isn’t always easy.

Start with focusing fully on eating when you have your meals.

What are the subtle flavors of your food, what’s the mouth feel? Also look beyond taste. How does the food make you feel, both physically and emotionally? Is it easy to digest for you or is it a troublemaker that makes you bloated or constipated?

Then open up, and be kind and flexible.

#3: Open your mind:

Being open for new ideas is essential if you really want to achieve optimal digestion and great energy. That’s because you might find some of your long held beliefs challenged by what you learn, and might have to let go of them to achieve your goal.

Aim to evaluate new ideas or new ways of doing things in a nonjudgmental manner.

Do your own research to see different perspectives. Take your time to form a view.

#4: Be kind to yourself:

Always be kind to yourself as this will encourage and support you.

When you’ve achieved a milestone, reward yourself. – and never ever  beat yourself up if you’re not progressing as planned.

Put milestones, rewards and conditions to be met into your calendar at least for your first two months on whatever change program you’re doing.

Look beyond food as a reward.

Also consider other options such as going to the movies or what else you like. Should you have a food or drink as a treat, appreciate them for what they are: Something special. Depriving yourself will only lead you to binge. Better create a rule, for example a glass of wine on weekend nights only.

And if things don’t always go as planned, notice it, learn and move on.

#5: Stay flexible:

Flexibility allows you to make adjustments where and when needed.

Fact is that we cannot control everything. Things may happen that you couldn’t foresee, or you might gain new insights that put things into a different light.

It’s important to tweak things to make them work for you.

Continue to use your ‘why’ and the goal you want to achieve to set your direction. Then adjust your way forward to the new situation including milestones and rewards.

This mindset will set you up well to achieve real change and to find out how to end constipation in what is your personal and unique situation.
